Vintage music fest

ONE OF Sampradaya's prime objectives is to preserve valuable music traditions as represented by master musicians. In the past two decades, Sampradaya has organised several concerts. Complementing the actual music performances as represented by masters and also with the purposes of documenting, Sampradaya has also conducted in-depth interviews with some of these masters getting them at length to talk about their art, the tradition of music they represent, their times, their moments of glory, their moments of disappointment, their teaching methodology, their awards, their accolades, their interaction with other artistes, people (artistes who inspired them and their concerts, tours) and so on.

The resource thus built up in over the last 24 years is invaluable. To commemorate the music season and to enlighten the youth of today, Sampradaya is presenting a special vintage music season dedicated to those eternal great masters and stalwarts of yesteryear preserved in Sampradaya's archives. The nine-day festival (from December 18-30) at Raga Sudha Hall will be inaugurated by Cho Ramaswamy and the invocation will be rendered by Nityasree Mahadevan. The chief guest will be B. Suresh Kumar, General Manager, (Engineering), Future Software Limited. The event is fully sponsored by Bharatiya Sangeetha Vibhavam. The nine-day series will feature excerpts from rare concerts and interviews of these great legends from Sampradaya's archival holdings. The present disciples of these great masters are the special invitees and will speak briefly on the special aspects of the music of their gurus that will be followed by one-hour listening session of these legends.

Each concert will conclude with an interactive session, `All You Wanted To Know' where the rasikas will be given an opportunity to raise questions on their favourite musician. The festival will conclude with the documentary film, `A Tryst with Trinity' by Sampradaya.
