Staging a folk tale

"PUNYAKOTI," A programme of dance theatre and Bharatanatyam dances by Malathi Iyengar and her disciples, Lakshmi Iyengar and Hema Iyer, will be presented by Hamsadhwani, New No. 2 (4), 8th Lane, Indira Nagar, Adyar, Chennai, (Ph: 2491 5555), on December 22, at 7 p.m. The same show organised by Nadam Academy will be held on December 26, 6 p.m., at ADA Kalamandira, JC Road, Bangalore. The dance drama is inspired by "Govina Haadu," (The Song of the Cow), a folk tale from Karnataka. This simple and moving folk tale in dance format is designed for adults and children.

On December 27, 6.15 p.m., "Dance and Devotion," a book written by Malathi with illustrations by Suresh Iyengar, will be released. Presented by Shivapriya Academy, the function to be held at Kannada Bhavan, Ravindra Kalakshetra Annexe, JC Road, Bangalore, will be followed by a dance performance titled `Tulasi,' choreographed by Malathi Iyengar.
