All about temple building
"IRAIVAN - THE Science of Ancient Traditions - South Indian Temple Architecture" is a documentary feature released by Islandfolks Media Productions.
A temple built wholly out of granite stones is being built in the Kauai Adheenam, Kauai, Hawaii. All three million pounds of it are being hand carved 15,000 miles away in Bangalore.
Director Shankar Nathan (9840351619) narrates the story behind the construction of the temple, that of Gurudeva and his monks of the Kauai's Hindu monastery.
Rather than focusing just on the temple, the film of 45 minutes also focuses on the science behind temple construction through the words of Ganapathi Sthapathi, who heads the construction. He tells us many important facts about temple building.
An interesting fact is that the fundamental unit of measurement for a temple is calculated based on the planetary positions of the founder, the governing star of the location and of the deity. Every measurement in the temple is a factor of this unit thereby ensuring a sense of rhythm (laya) in the temple and therefore its name, ``a-laya."
