Tyagaraja season

Participants at the Tyagaraja Arathana organised at Vasundhara Enclave.

LIKE OTHER organisations across the Capital, indeed across the world, Delhi's Vasundhara Enclave Sarveswara Samaj conducted a Tyagaraja Aradhana, a celebration in memory of Tyagaraja, the composer of the 19th Century considered one of the pillars of Carnatic music and revered as a saint.

The highlight of such events, which serve as social as well as cultural events, is the singing of Tyagaraja's pancharatna kritis in the five `gana' ragas - Nattai, Gowlai, Arabhi, Varali and Shree - in which almost all participants join. In this case, the group singing was led by Delhi's veteran vocalist, Vishalam Venkatachalam.

The event, which began with a Ganapati puja, also included renderings of Tyagaraja compositions by individual musicians.
