East meets West

Sivaji and debutante Roma in `Mr. Errababu'.

THE BOTANICAL garden in the city is brimming with activity. Crisscrossing over a cluster of movie enthusiasts we reached the location where the unit of Euro Andhra Entertainment, formed by a London based NRI Sunil Chalamalasetty is shooting its maiden film, `Mr. Errababu,' directed by debutant K. Kishore. He is filming a duet on lead actors Sivaji and new find Roma.

"This is a part of the song. The other stanzas were filmed at Annapurna Studios, its annex the seven-acre studio, at Nanakramguda. Along with the lead pair, Kaikala Satyanarayana, `Ahuti' Prasad, Nagababu, Edida Sriram and other principal actors too participated in the song at these places," informs executive producer Edida Raja as the hero and the heroine dance to the steps composed by choreographer Prasanna in sync with Koti's tune.

"It is an entertaining love story that travels from London to East Godavari belt," continues Raja. "We gave a tag line to the title `Mr. Errababu,' `Intermediate 5th year'. That explains that it is a full-length entertainer. The hero lives in a village in the East Godavari district with `Ahuti' Prasad and Rajyalakshmi as his parents. The heroine, Roma, hails from London. Nagababu and Amitha are her parents. Satyanarayana is her grandfather, Raghubabu and Sunil her paternal and maternal uncles respectively."

"We shot for about 20 days in London and in its suburbs a major chunk of the talkie portions and returned to shoot the village setting here. Our theme is not about the cultural shock. Though born and brought up in an alien land, our heroine believes in traditional Indian culture. It is a simple love story between a rural boy and a London-born girl. Apart from this, there is only one song to be shot that we are planning to film in a specially created set."

Cinematographer K. Dutt with his assistants adjusts the lighting pattern for the next block in the stanza. Sivaji and Roma practice the steps under the watchful eyes of Prasanna.

Happy about progress

Producer Sunil looks happy as the film is progressing as planned. "We have filmed a couple of duets in picturesque places in Malaysia. Koti has done an excellent job for all the five songs, composing some of the best melodies in recent times. After scanning through many titles, finally we found this one apt for our theme. Sivaji has given one more excellent performance. Though I am new to filmmaking, with perfect planning and unstinted cooperation from my unit and friends, the work progressed as per schedules," he says.

"I know today making of a film is one thing and promoting it is another. We are not compromising on the promotional aspect either and plan to reach to the audience in a big way. After completing the post-production work in March, we plan to release the film in April," he adds.

The star cast comprises Vijayachander, Venumadhav, Krishna Bhagawan, Srinivasa Reddy, Anu and Deepa. Ram from the United Kingdom makes his screen debut.
