"CHINNA CHENNAI Asai," an exhibition-cum-sale, organised by Sushobhit, features handcrafted products made by small women entrepreneurs. Items made of jute, terracotta "deepams," wooden masks and fabric floral bouquets with aesthetic and craftsmanship of a high order, reflect a woman's natural flair for detailing. Small and affordable items are displayed at "Chinna Chennai Asai."
The jute products include artistically embellished and beautifully finished office folders, purses, hand bags, shopping bags and a range of utility items such as spectacle cases, mobile holders and so on. Lace work, block and batik printing and embroidery add value to the jute items.
Other crafts on display are block printed salwar sets and saris, "kurtis and "value-added" jeans as well as children's wear which comes in innovative designs. Block printed woven bedspreads, wooden toys and dolls, tribal masks etc., are also available. Handcrafted flower arrangements, with soft English and tropical hues, from OKAAPI are a huge attraction.
Potpourris are also available. Not to be missed are homemade pickles, papads and fruit juices. While many of the woven entrepreneurs craft their products individually or in units employing Self-Help groups, others retail and sell products of special interest to women and homemakers.
The exhibition will be on till February 26 at C. P. Arts Centre, Eldams Road.
