The students of Kalabharthi put up an impressive show.

G. Krishnaswetha's `Bhamakalaapam' was an added bonus.
YOUNGSTERS FROM the classical dance wing of the Kalabharthi School of Fine Arts in Vizag rendered a delightful performance last week. Distributed into two age groups of 7 to 10 and 12 to 16, the students fulfilled all intricacies of the tradition without any inhibitions.
The programme got off to a grand start with the senior group performing the "Mahaganapathim" as the invocation dance.
This was followed by "Brahmanjali" (Raagamalika) and "Athana Jathiswaram" by the younger lot.
In other numbers like the "Dasavatharasabdam" in "Raagamalika," "Krishnamkalayasakhi" ("Tarangam"), "Sivatandavam" and the "Kuntalavarali Thillana" of Balamurali, select groups of danseuses from the higher age group were involved.
The teacher, Akondi Ramakrishna, who also rendered vibrant "nattuvangam," made an effort to visualise important episodes in every item. The performance by G. Krishnaswetha, a popular exponent, added a great deal to the show.
Swetha presented "Bhamakalaapam" ("Raagamalika" - "Khandachaapu"), Annammayya's composition "Okaparikokapari Vayyaramai" ("Kharaharapriya - Aadi") and "Nagumomuganaleni" of Tyagaraja ("Abheri") rather elaborately and stole the show.
The evocative backdrop of music had Dwaram VKG Tyagaraju (vocal), G. Venkata Rao (mridangam), M. Neeladri Rao (violin) and T. Atchutha Rao (flute). The credit for the excellent make-up went to Chiranjeevi Surya Rao and party.
