Ranadheera Kanteerava is a play about power centres.
RANADHEERA KANTEERAVA, a historical play was staged recently at Kalamandira, Mysore, by Kalapriya. Umesh, an educationist and a well-known theatre person, directed the play with aplomb. The play depicts the loyalty of Mannama Gowda, who had to face several challenges to preserve the dignity of the empire. The statesmanship and political maturity of Manamma Gowda in establishing a cordial relationship between the power centre and the local administration avoids a clash, but his efforts to patch up the family feud ends with a disaster (as it happens with the present political set up). M. Dwarakanath as Mannama Gowda, N. Dhananjaya as Ranadheera and R. Purnima as Veravve were at their best.

Performance of Sri Lalithakala Academy Foundation artistes evoked a delectable response from the visiting yoga delegates from United Kingdom.
Sheila Baker from one of the Universities of UK, appreciated Uma Rao for her sprightly show of Navarasa (nine moods of humanity), assisted by Vidwan Thandavamurthy's inspiring delineation of the raga bhavas on violin. "Om Namo Mahishasura Mardhini" a composition of Raja S. Gururajacharya was a unique portrayal with iconic postures of Goddess Durga in each charana sahitya tuned to prime ragas of Carnatic music like Keeravani, Bhairavi, Saramathi, Ranjani, Sriranjini and Simhendra Madyama. The annual tribute to Sri Tyagaraja and Sri Purandaradasaru by Sri Tyagaraja Sangeetha Sabha at Bidaram Prasanna Seetha Rama Mandira, created an opportunity to the aspirants, irrespective of their achievements in music. Nevertheless, the mediocre performances that followed were no fitting tribute to the great composers.
