Poetic play rendered

Total surrender to the designs of the Almighty formed the central theme of the play, `Nigama Sarma'.

The play dealt with man's relationship with the creator

VISAKHA MUSIC and Dance Academy featured a poetic play `Nigama Sarma' at Kalabharathi in Vizag. Scripted and directed by many a time Nandi award winner, Meegada Ramalingaswamy for Sri Meera Kalaajyotsna, an association established by him , the play was an effort dramatising the story of Nigama Sarma as it occurs as one of the many `upaakhyanams' (subsidiary narrations) of persons who turned soulful devotees of the Almighty. Nigama Sarma's story is one such `upaakhyanam' that occurs as part of the Mahakaavyam scripted by Tenali Ramakrishna. Attractive set-up of music for rendering the versified dialogues along with good teamwork marked the performance. Nandi award winner, Ratna Sastry lived the role of Akka (elder sister of Nigama Sarma) while Meegada presented a sprightly picture of himself in the title role. His musical rendering of the versified dialogues in particular attracted good applause repeatedly though they did not sound as empathetic as those rendered by Ratna Sastry. M.L. Prasanna as the niece of Nigama Sarma acting with felicitous charm stole the show even in her short spells of appearance on stage. M. Ramachandra Rao, S.V.S.S.R. Sastry, T.S.S. Shanmukha, T.S.D. Phanikumar, M. Tirupathi Naidu, V. Satyam, L. Jayalakshmi, K.V. Lakshmi, P.V.S. Neelima and P.V.S. Nirupama constituted a good supporting cast.

The other credits were shared by T. Vasu (harmonium), Siva (tabla), costume, M. Vijayalaksmhi and M.D.S. Prasad, dance choreography, T. Lalitha, set decor, Surabhi Raghunath and stage management, M.S. Ravikanth.
