Kumbabhishekam

Sri Yoga Maya Bhuvaneswari

THE KUMBABISHEKAM for Sri Yoga Maya Bhuvan eswari temple and for the Adishtana of Sri Bhuvaneswari Swami at Kallikuppam in Ambattur, Chennai, will be conducted on April 10.

Sri Bhuvaneswari Swami established the Sri Yoga Maya Bhuvaneswari Peetam and Sri Bharadwaj Ashram at Kallikupam in 1991.

A disciple of Sri Mouna Swamigal of Sri Siddeswari Peetam at Tirukutralam, at his guru's demise in 1943, Kasi Viswanathar (as the Swami was called at that time) went to Varanasi and stayed there for nine years. He learnt the Vedas, sastras and the Gita.

Constant chanting of the Gayatri mantra rewarded him with a vision of Sri Bhuvaneswari Devi. This in turn led to the establishment of the peetam and his assuming the name of Bhuvaneswari Swami.

In Bharadwaj ashram, full moon days and ashtami days, guru poornima, navaratri, arudra darsana and vaikunda ekadasi are observed with great fervour. On Pournami days abhishekam is done with 64 materials. Homams are conducted. Gosala is an important part of the ashram.

Thousands are fed on festival days after puja. The Swami presided over several deity installation ceremonies and kumbabhishekams.

After the demise of Sri Bhuvaneswari Swami two years ago, his son Sri Bharadwaj Swami succeeded him as the head of the peetam, and the rituals are conducted with the same meticulous care.

The adishtana of Sri Bhuvaneswari Swami has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 30 lakhs. Apart from the kumbabhishekam, Sri Viswanatha Linga will be installed over the shrine.
