SHOOTING ON the streets in summer is an ordeal and it needs brave hearts to accomplish the task. Art director-turned-producer, Chanti Addala, led a team of such brave men while filming a few scenes on the roads leading to the Imax theatre, for his forthcoming film, "Oka Oorilo" produced under his Friendly Movies Banner . As Arjun Jana's camera whirred past capturing the conversation of the film's lead stars - Tarun, Raja and Salomi, we follow them. Arjun Jana, an erstwhile associate, of P.C. Sreeram, won the Tamil Nadu State Award as "Best Cinematographer" last year. "In all probability he may win such award in Telugu for his superb work in our film," says Chanti.
On the terrace of a building near the Imax Theatre, art director, Srinivasa Raju, created the .settings of the hero's house. The story starts in a village and travels to the city. We are now filming the scenes that come in the second half. Tarun plays a lazy man. His role has negative shades, as he is self centred. If such a sluggish fellow falls in love, what will happen to him and to the poor girl? "Based on this concept we evolved a story.
Buoyant over sops
Tarun has an image of a lover boy, but this is the first time he is playing a lazy lover boy and that forms the variety part,"_ says Chanti with a smile as we move further down the road. No wonder, Tarun calls it an "epic love story." As Tarun and Salomi walk, Raja flashes his familiar smile and says something to them. The three are childhood friends, separated and reunited as grown ups, discloses the producer.
On his present project, Chanti says that, he always looks at the story first and then decides the star cast.
"Before selecting the script, I analyse it as a technician and as an audience. It is good script that matters and when the director handles it, well, it helps," says Chanti who is introducing publicity designer Ramesh Varma as the new director. "I know, I have an ace up my sleeve," says the producer with a smile even as he keenly watches his find instructing the lead artistes for the next shot. He then proceeds to discuss with his production team arrangements for the next day's work. It is a song sequence in a train and the railway track backdrop composed brilliantly by Devi Sri Prasad. "We have earlier filmed a song and a few scenes in and around Palakol. Salomi plays a traditional girl hailing from an island village. A natural actress, she emoted well in certain tragic scenes without the use of ,glycerine," says Chanti. .Barring the filming of three songs; the rest of the film would be completed by April 15. "One of the songs would be filmed in a studio here, while the other two would be carried out in locations where nature is at its best," he added.
Slated for release in mid-May, the film has an impressive star cast -Chandramohan, Naresh, M.S. Narayana, Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam, Sunil, Ramaraju, Kalpana, Yamuna, Nirosha, Hema and Jayalalitha.
