ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS:Nithyasree Mahadevan's concert at Rajalakshmi Fine Arts in Coimbatore.
That the number of concert-goers has increased manifold in Coimbatore was evident at the Nani Palkhiwala auditorium, the venue for the second anniversary celebrations of Rajalakshmi Fine Arts. Nithyasree Mahadevan was conferred the award, `Isai Mani Magudam.' The other invitees were K. Kulandaivel, Chancellor of Avinashilingam Deemed University, ethno-musicologist S.A.P. Durga and Bombay Jayashree.
Nithyasree began her concert with Tyagaraja's "Endaro Mahanubhavulu" and followed it up with "Sri Parvati Parameswaram" in Bowli and "Ninnadane" in Kanada.
Despite the rainfall in the city, Nithyasree continued to drench the audience with her enthralling performance. Her RTP piece in Jaganmohini with the pallavi "Nenje Ninai Anbe" was commendable. She also sang Dikshitar's "Sri Soundararajam Ashraye" and Purandaradasa's "Samanyavalla Sri".
She was ably supported by Sivakumar on the mridangam, Sridhar Prasad on the kanjira, M. A. Krishnaswamy on the violin and Avudayarkovil Subramaniam on the gethu.
