Shedding her 'Rose' image
Kate Winslet has found it easier to move away from her `Titanic' Rose by avoiding big budget movies. In `Iris,' she plays a young Iris Murdoch and in the recent, `Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,' she plays Jim Carrey's love and we last saw her as the widow with her brood of sons opposite Johnny Depp in a love that cannot be named in Finding Neverland. The latest on Sam Mendes' `Missus' is she is in negotiations for `Little Children,' about suburban parents who live in a perfect town, rear perfect children and surf porn sites by night. To be directed by Todd Field, the movie is based on a book by Tom Perrotta, who also wrote ``Election" that Alexander `Sideways' Payne made into a brilliant film.
Lie on a revenge spree
Actress Lucy Liu is reportedly all set to star in Ghost House Pictures' thriller, `Rise.' The film, to be scripted and directed by Sebastian Gutierrez, centres on a journalist who wakes up in a morgue and realises she is now not among the living, thanks to some vampires. Liu vows revenge and finally hunts them down. Production is scheduled to begin this summer.
Star wars again
Ewan McGregor who plays Obi Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequels has a warning for Star Wars junkies. McGregor, who is starring in a musical, "Guys and Dolls," said, "I made a decision a while back, I'm not going to be available to sign Star Wars stuff at the stage door. I'll be available to sign people's programmes and things. But if I start that it will be a nightmare." The third of the Star Wars prequels, `The Revenge of the Sith,' opens world wide on May 20.
Shyamalan's sea nymph
M. Night Shyamalan's latest movie, The Lady in the Water, about a person who stumbles on a rare type of sea nymph in the apartment swimming pool has signed Bryce Dallas Howard, who made her debut in Shyamalan's silly scary `The Village.' Paul Giamatti from Sideways, who is working with Bryce's father, Ron Howard, in the Russell Crowe starrer, Cinderella Man, is being wooed to play the male lead. The film made by Warner Brothers will go into production in August.
Branson cuts a cameo
Rebel billionaire, Sir Richard Branson, is all set to make a cameo appearance in the new Superman film, "Superman Returns." Branson said, "Brian (director Brian Singer) invited me to appear in the Superman film and he is using a Virgin Galactic airship in the film. I think today I'm going to be doing a fun little cameo role with my son Sam so it is going to be a good day."
