Here's ringing in the New Year

The Tamil New Year was celebrated with gusto.

Celebrating the onset of yet another year as the Tamil New Year, the Tamil Kalai Mandram, organised a family get-together that was marked by a grand show of talent in music and dance mostly by its members and their children.
Inaugurated by the president of the `mandram', R. Sampath, the programme got off to a serene start with an invocation song seeking the blessings of lord Ganesha, `Mahaganapathim', rendered with fervour by Viswanath.
Then followed devotional songs like `Varuvai Varuvai Ganapathiye', `Thayirukka Pillaivadalama', `Ammakpipai thandhu', `Venugopala' by Divya Sadanandam.
The felicitous accompaniment on the `tabla' by Praveen, son of the doyen comedian of the Tamil theatre, A. Manoharan attracted encomiums from all around.
The `Bharathnatyam' recital by Reshma Nair and Iswarya Ramanan, both disciples of the reputed exponent and teacher of the tradition, Priya Ramkumar was the highlight of the evening.
`Natesha Koutham' and the show of the childhood pranks of Krishna as they stand described in the lyrics, `Aadathu Asayadhu Vaa Kanna' in particular stood out.
The rendering of a few light numbers on the keyboard by Goushini, Kailash, Ajeetha and Vivek, vocal rendering of `Namo Namo' by the six-year-old Krupakaran, film music by Ramesh, Gopi and Vijayaranganan provided a thrilling finale.
A. Manoharan compered the show. Sampath presented mementos to all those who participated in the cultural events.
