Attendance
The Dance Annual of India, Attendance, edited by Ashish Khokar and published by Ekhah-Printways, is now available. The major themes this year are Kathak, Kelucharan Mohapatra and Khajuraho - the latter focussing on the evolution of the Khajuraho dance festival and its becoming a replicable model. However there is also a pointed critique of the Khajurajo festival - 2005, which the editor points out was badly organised and put the participating dancers in danger due to lax arrangements.
Music for Easter
Capital City Minstrels presented Sanctus - Sacred Music for Easter. The choir presented excerpts from Handel's Messiah, Vivaldi and spirituals from Africa and West Indies, at the Habitat Centre.
Flute Recital
Carnatic flautist G. Raghuraman, disciple of R. Thyagarajan, presented a flute recital at the India Habitat Centre.
Serbia-Montenegro
Glimpses of Serbia-Montenegro were presented by the India International Centre this week, which included the screening of two films Goosefeather and The Enclave of Kosovo. The highlight, of course, was the concert by the Woodwind Trio of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra - B. Pesic (oboe), N. Jankovic (fagot) and V. Klenkovski (clarinet). They played the works of Mozart, Tomasi, Beethoven and Haydn.
Embrace
As an endeavour to help in the cause of improving the lives of the underprivileged children, Delhi Friends Round Table held an exhibition of paintings, Embrace.
The exhibition featured renowned artists like M.F. Husain, Arpana Caur, Satish Gujral, Nupur Kundu and others. Delhi Friends Round Table is a charitable organisation that is a part of the International Round Table movement, currently focused on Freedom through Education.
Comic Play
Living Room Theatre presented a musical play "75 Not Out" in Hindustani, English and Punjabi at the IIC auditorium. Directed by Sarita Vohra this comic play is about a motley group of older people who are acquainted with each other. They frequent the same park, live in the same neighbourhood and have the same concerns.
World Dance Week
To celebrate the success of her book, Geeta Chandran presented So Many Journeys - The Performance, at Kamani auditorium.
A Bharatanatyam recital, the performance was also promoted as flagging off World Dance Week in India. Based on chapters from the book, the performance presented aspects of Anjali, Guru-Dakshina, Navadarshanam, Bhakti, Rasika, She-Rahasyam and Samarpan.
Remembering MS
Gayathri Fine Arts, Rohini, presented a Carnatic music concert in memory of the late M.S. Subbulakshmi at the Triveni Chamber Theatre. Besides Vasantha Krishnan and Lalitha Anand, other vocalists included Vidya Srinivasan and Guruvayur T.V. Manikantan, besides Sindhura, Manjira and Saranya.
Feminine Mystique
An exhibition of charcoal and oil canvas by Tania Gangulee Batra was on view at Shridharani Gallery, Triveni. Titled Feminine Mystique, the exhibition, which included a few of Batra's lates works, depicted woman in a multitude of hues, moods, colours and draped identities.
Photography in Luxembourg
The Embassy of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg presented Private vs. Public Views, an exhibition of the work of six contemporary photographers from Luxembourg.
Curated by Madame Danielle Igniti, the exhibition explored the links between the private, intimate space of the individual and his/her existence in society.
