Dazzling show by budding child musicians

The weeklong festival for children showcased the enthusiasm and genuine talent of the artistes.

Srirama Gana Sabha is one of the oldest (38 years) music sabhas of the twin cities, serving the cause of classical music by regularly holding concerts and youth music festivals for the last six years.
The weeklong festival featured almost three-dozen young and child artistes. It was quite a scene to watch children rendering major compositions. Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana inaugurated the festival at the sabha's spacious hall at the Srirama temple premises. He appealed to the parents to encourage children to learn classical music. Koniki Satyanarayana Rao, founder of the sabha, was happy that the budding talent was showing interest in learning Carnatic music.
The festival began with a rendition by Kalyan Vasant, who belongs to the noted Meduri family of musicians. Kalyan displayed uncommon gift that was reflected in his skilful essaying of Thodi and doing Graha Bheda in it. The kriti was Emi Chesite Nemi marked by Kalyan's presentation of swara. Every day about five children presented their concerts.
J.S. Sriram, disciple of Akella Mallikarjuna Sarma, rendered Marivere in Latangi and Prakkala Nilabadi in Kharaharapriya. Srujana with (Orajoopu in Kannada Gowla) impressed. Vivarshini marked her concert with Poorvikalyani for Thyagaraja's Gjnana Mosagarada, with neraval and swaras, while M. Krithika sang Sarojadalanetri in Sankarabharanam, presenting the raga , neraval and swara prasthara, spontaneously. Jandhyala Satwika (Sankarabharanam - Manasuswadheena), G. Uma Padmaja (Mohana Sadapalaya) and K.S. Vasanta (Nalinakanti - Manaviyala) and M. Lalitha's Thodi for Thyagaraja's Vadealenu Kodandapani, were other highlights.
On the penultimate day, Y. Abhiram, disciple of Seshumani, made Kalyani (Amma Ravamma) and a rare composition Srikantimatim in Hemavathi her main attractions. Nookala's disciples Narendra Saradhi and Santoshi also figured. Narendra's Kalyani with Nidhichala Sukhama and Hindolam too for Samajavaragamana and Santhoshi's Bilahari for Dorakuna Ituvantiseva with nereval and swaras were highlights; Sariyevvaramma in Bhairavi with good sangathies were notable. Neeharika, a disciple of Neetha Chandrasekhar, concluded the evening show with Kanjadalayatakshi of Dikshitar in Kamalamanohari and a pleasing Kharaharapriya for Prakkala Nilabadi. Each one ventured to present swaras and some nerevals too.
On the concluding day, Vizag-based young vocalist, Bhavaraju Lakshmi Surya Teja displayed maturity in raga and swara improvisation, spontaneously. Essaying of Sunada Vinodini (Devadi Deva) and Srivighna Rajam in Gambhira Nata were examples. So were V. Hema's recital marked by Thodi for Kaddanuvariki. Vineeta figured in veena play (Kanjadalayatakshi Kamalamanohari) and delineated Sriranjani for Sogasuga and rare Tillana in Hameer Kalyani. Harita (Kharaharapriya), Charan (Bhairavi for rare Lalithe Sripravridha) marked the evening. B. Sridhar, a disciple of Komanduri Seshadri, was on violin.
