Cinema from the heart
Films Anonymous, a short films club, will showcase three films today through an event, appropriately titled `The Trio'. The first of the films is a take on the industry itself, with chief assistant director Sumit Khanna describing the trials and tribulations of assistant directors. The documentary, All Roads Lead To Cinema, takes a look at the various roles of assistant directors in the film-making process, from inception to execution. Having worked as one himself, in Yes Boss under film-maker Aziz Mirza, Khanna feels that an assistant director in Hollywood is treated with dignity and earns well, the Bollywood counterpart is more or less reduced to being an apprentice.
The second film, Idavazhi (The Narrow Path) has been made by Jayasri Nair and is an entrant at the Cannes Film Festival to be held this year. Idavazhi is a 15-minute short film which explores the relationship between a man and a stray dog. "The film shows how a man's love is conditional whilst that of a dog is unconditional," says the director.
The last film, Cheh Feet Neeche, is a local creation by D. Sandeep. Shot entirely in Hyderabad on a shoestring budget, the film is a dark comedy about the underworld. The films will be screened at Hydermahal, Hotel Grand Kakatiya from 7 p.m. onwards.
