Engaging concert

Renowned playback singer Vani Jairam gave a scintillating performance at a concert organised by the Tirupati Cultural Academy at Mahati auditorium. She kept the audience awe-struck with her Annamayya kritis, rendered with all elegance and ease.

The song, Maanasa Sancharare in the film Sankarabharanam that brought fame to her melodious voice, evoked a rousing response from the audience. Speaking later, she reminisced the day when she had the opportunity to perform at the feet of Lord Venkateswara, when the Mahati auditorium was inaugurated some five years ago.

Felicitating the Jairams, the executive officer of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), A.P.V.N. Sarma, also bestowed the `best couple' title on them. The Devasthanam was flooded with proposals to institute Garuda awards to artistes excelling on various fronts, on the lines of the Nandi, announced annually by the state Government.
