Action and passion

Gopichand's new movie, `Andhrudu', boasts of a ten-day shoot in Patna.

In mid-summer the physician's advice is to avoid the sun between 11 a.m to 3 p.m. The fortunate white-collar employee can afford such luxury; but not construction workers or cine workers who construct a film frame by frame. The stars are slightly more fortunate as they have fans and umbrellas to seek solace in between the takes. Imagine filming action sequences under searing heat in the streets of a village near Toopran, in Medak district.

It might be thrilling and exciting to watch the scenes in the cool comforts of an air-conditioned theatre. But for the crew, it is a gruelling experience.

After a 90-minute journey from Hyderabad, we reached Kunthanapalli village in Medak district where the shoot for Sri Keerthi Creations, Andhrudu is taking place. It is easy to find the location as the star-gazers guided us to the street where the action is taking place. Spotted at the location are hero Gopichand; comedians -- Sunil and Lakshmipathi and "baddies" Sayaji Shinde and Salim Panda with their "henchmen."

In fact, the location is turned into a backward village in Bihar. Debutant heroine Gowri Pandit plays the girl from Bihar. "The love story moves from one State to the other as the, hero goes to Bihar in search of his lady love, says director Paruchuri Murali. "We shot a few major scenes in Patna, Gaya and Nalanda. We are shooting the rest of the scenes here.

Gopi's agility

He moves towards fight composers Ram and Lakshman. Ace cinematographer Vijay C. Kumar is using the natural lighting that he had so successfully used in the recent hit, Anand. The tall and tough-looking Gopichand has enough agility to chase the villain and his gang. As he takes them on, Panda hobbles for cover. The fight masters order for one more take, just in case the artistes can better their performance. During the short break, chilled juice is served. The brawl has no cinematic tone to it. The impact will be like watching a real life fight in the streets. No contrived graphics here please," says Gopichand. In an earlier schedule, the actor had a fractured nose in one of those action scenes. "When you strive for realism, you have to take the risk. Basically, this is a love story and my character has to display all kinds of emotions. The character is conceived to suit my body language. My character has no tenderness, but has rough edges that the audience would like to see me with," he saysHe feels that there is newness in the director's shot composition. The texture is different and brilliant too. The shoot commences again with the retake of the earlier action block.

Expensive filming

Producer M.L. Kumar Chowdary briefs us about his expensive venture. "Just before this scene, we shot a fight between the hero and the villains involving about 200 bullock carts in action. Gopi will get a new image after our film," says Kumar. He feels that the recreated Godavari Pushkaram scene shot at Rajahmundry is a major attraction apart from the 10-day shoot in Bihar. "Kalyani Malik has given the best of tunes. We have filmed three songs. In our last schedule that commences from May 26, we will complete the rest of the talkie part and the other three songs," he added. It is a love story of a law enforcer set against a different backdrop. The temperature is searing outside. Unmindful of it, the camera whirls capturing the myriad emotions of the actors.
