Pleasing recital

Vocalist Sandhyasri presented a mellifluous recital.

Sujana Ranjani, featured young female vocalist Sandhyasri in a pleasing recital at Sabha's venue Hanuman Devasthanam, Sanathnagar, recently.

Sandhya is gifted with mellifluous voice with good vocal scope . She rendered the kirtanas with sahitya clarity and made every composition enjoyable. In accompanying her on violin, Uma Sankar carefully elevated her recital adding his own imagination, especially in raga essays. K. Shyam Kumar accompanied on mridangam . Together, the young team of performers made the recital enjoyable.

Sandhya began with Saveri varnam in two speeds, displaying perfect timing and raga mood. After Sri Mahaganapatim in Abhogi with a brief swara improvisation, Sandhya took up Kaanada for a brief elaboration. Swati Tirunal's Mamava sada Janani was rendered well. Sandhya then came up with Pantuvarali. She shaped it up into a sweet melody and chose yet another kirtana, Sarasaksha Paripalaya of Swathi Tirunal. She took up nereval at Bhamini Samudayasaya, extending into beautiful swaras. Then came Evarikai avatara in Devamanohari as preface for her major raga effort Mohana.

She presented popular kriti Mohana Rama. Good expression in the kirtana part and technical beautification in the nereval and swaraprasthara parts elevated the number to make it stand out as the best piece. Tani by Shyamsundar was quite engaging. The end part had interesting Thillana in Bagesri.
