From Ganga to Cauvery



THE MASTER Ustad Bismillah Khan will perform in Bangalore and Manipal

Spicmacay is organising a shehnai concert by the brilliant Bismillah Khan on May 20 and 22. The May 20 concert will be at Sambharan Institute of Technology, near Amba Bhavani Temple, Hesaraghatta, and the May 22 concert will be at Sri Vani Education Centre, 4th B Main, 3rd Cross, 3rd Stage, 3rd Block, Basaweshwarnagar.

After the Bangalore concerts, Bismillah Khan will perform at the inauguration of the Spicmacay National Convention at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal, from May 24 to 29. This concert will begin at 7.10 p.m. on May 24 and will be followed by M. Balamuralikrishna's vocal recital.

On May 25, T.V. Sankaranarayanan will present vocal recital at 9 a.m. followed by Malavika Sarukkai's Bharatanatya and Kapila Venu's Koodiyattam. On May 26, U.R. Ananthamurthy will deliver a lecture at 9 a.m., which will be followed by screening The Rope by Adoor Gopalakrishnan at 2.30 p.m., and Gombeyatta, Panchavadyam and Yakshagana by Bhaskara Kogga Kamath.

Anjolie Ela Menon will deliver a lecture on May 27, 9 a.m. followed by staging of plays written by Habib Tanveer and K.V. Subbanna at 6.10 p.m.

On May 28, Zia Fariduddin Dagar will present a dhrupad recital, 9 a.m. followed by overnight programmes to commence at 8 p.m. featuring inter alia Shiv Kumar Sharma on the santoor, Ravi Kiran on the gotuvadyam, and Kathak by Birju Maharaj.
