Rabindra Sangeet
It was an evening of Rabindra Sangeet by Sreyashi Mitra of Kolkata the other day at the India Habitat Centre. Again, Rabindra Sangeet had its echo at the India International Centre too where, to mark the Rabindra Jayanti, Debarati Shome, Lecturer of Rabindra Sangeet at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, presented Rabindra Sangeet.
Odissi Dance
Habitat Centre was host to another function early this week when Odissi Natyashala presented a thematic performance `The Evolution of Odissi Dance' from Maharis to Gotipuas to contemporary Odissi.
Animation Films
The India International Centre screened 16 new animation films made by children from across the world compiled by the International Animated Films Association, France (ASIFA). These films were screened at the Hiroshima International Animation Film Festival, August 2004. The Indian films included Friendship and Think Before You Act.
Films On Wildlife & Environment
Three films on Wildlife and Environment were screened at the India International Centre this past Sunday - Life Under wildlife, Bandits and the Backhanders and Smog Inc.
IIC was also host, earlier this week, to an illustrated lecture on "The Tiger: Understanding the Crisis" by Valmik Thapar, a well known expert on tigers, and member, Prime Minister's Task Force on Tiger. It was chaired by Jyotiraditya Scindia, M.P.
Kathokatay Agomani
Ashish Ghosh presented a solo presentation of Kathokatay Agomani. It is the story of Goddess Durga's homecoming where the narrator plays all the roles using a technique that involves storytelling, role-playing, singing, dancing, dramatising and handling of simple properties.
Batashoff's Play
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations and the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria presented "The Rhythm", a play directed by Andrey Batashoff, at Kamani auditorium.
Tendulkar's Play
Osho World Foundation presented Vijay Tendulkar's play "Panchi Aise Aate Hein" this past Monday.
It was repeated the next day at the Shriram Centre for the Arts, Safdar Hashmi Marg, Mandi House. Sanjeev Johri has directed the play.
Post-tsunami Photos
Arpana Art Gallery presented at its premises an exhibition of post-tsunami photographs by Sahir Raza.
Bharatanatyam Recitals
Jayalakshmi Eshwar presented a Bharanatyam dance recital at the Triveni Kala Sangam.
Her disciples also presented a tillana. Another artiste to present a Bharatanatyam recital this past Sunday at the India International Centre was Somya Sethuraman
Ganesha, Krishna and Buddha
A painting exhibition on Ganesha, Krishna and Buddha was on display at JD Institute of Technology, Lokayata, Hauz Khas Village. The paintings were done by Harish Kumar, the man behind Musharraf's "Naherwali Haveli in Chandni Chowk".
Upadhye's Paintings
Gallery Pioneer displayed the recent works of Praveen Upadhye at its premises in Hauz Khas Village.
Other Exhibitions
Nitanjali Art Gallery presented `Green Summer', a solo show of paintings in wash and tempera on paper by Kishore Roy.
The exhibition was held at Ansal Plaza, Khel Gaon Marg. An exhibition of paintings by Sunita Anand Rao was on display at Lalit Kala Akademi. Sunita Rao's works mostly display feelings of passion, peace, joy and sensuality. She has been greatly influenced by Matisse, Van Gogh and Paul Gaugin.
Her initial works were mostly landscapes, still life and floral representations on canvas. Later her style changed towards figurative.
Italian Film
The Italian Embassy Cultural Centre screened an Italian film nome della rosa (The Name of the Rose), with English subtitles this past Thursday at its Centre in Chanakyapuri.
