Awards presented

Eminent musicians were honoured with DBR awards.

Late Dwaram Bhavanarayana Rao who, for a long time served as principal of government music colleges at Vizianagaram and Vijayawada, was a reputed musicologist and musician. He rendered great service to Carnatic music by translating into Telugu, the masterly works of Venkatamakhi (Chaturdandi Prakasika), Matanga Muni (Brihaddesi), Dattila Muni (Dattilam) and Parsvadeva (Sangeeta Samaya Saram). Another book of Bhavanarayana Rao in English — Composers of Carnatic Music is under print.

After his demise nearly five years ago, his family members and admirers started the Dwaram Bhavanarayana Rao Memorial Trust with Dwaram Varadamma Bhavanarayana Rao as its managing Trustee. The Trust honours every year, eminent musicologists and musicians with a cash award, a shawl and a memento. This year, the awards went to Late T.S. Pardhasaradhy and vidwan T.R. Subramanyam of Chennai and N.Ch. Krishnamacharyulu of Vijayawada, a great scholar and an eminent musicologist, musician and a Harikatha Bhagavatar. The colourfully organised award function in Vijayawada took place in the campus of Naraya Vidya Samstha.

Oleti Parvateesam, in-charge director of Vijayawada Doordarshan, well-known journalist C. Raghavachary, reputed musicians — Annavarapu Ramaswamy, K.V. Reddy, Ampolu Muralikrishna and Modumudi Sudhakar paid fitting tributes to Bhavanarayana Rao and praised his services to the field of Carnatic music.
