The `Asara' concert showcased fine talent in classical music and dance.
|
Asara, the bi-monthly concert of classical music and dance presented by the premier cultural organisation Sanskruti O Sanskruti, has been rendering yeoman's service in promoting young talents. In every Asara that took off since last year there are some young singers or dancers who give their maiden stage performance.
This chapter of Asara featured an exciting talent in Dibyadarshan Biswal whose disciplined violin recital won many hearts. Dibyadarshan who completed his M.Mus from Benares Hindu University by topping the list of successful candidates began with raag Charukeshi and ended with a dhun in Mishra Shivranjani set to taal Deepchandi. He was accompanied on the tabla by his equally talented brother Shubhadarshan Biswal.
An evening of Odissi
Mohapatra Minati Bhanja, a seasoned singer of Odissi began the proceedings of the evening by presenting raag Mukhari. She went on to render Banamali's well-known song Bata chhada suhata nagara. Her husband Jagannath Kuanr accompanied her on the pakhauj. After Biswal's violin recital, it was the turn of the ace Odissi dancer and actor Mohini Sheilalipi to take the stage. Her first item was a pure dance piece Pallavi. She followed it up with an abhinaya Bibhushana pushpe from the Baidehisha Bilasa of the great poet Upendra Bhanja.
Asara has been promoting a culture of classical music and dance that too by giving platform to local talents, both established and new. It's a unique effort that deserves all kudos since classical arts find few takers by way of patronage.
