He greets you with a polite `Good evening' and concludes with a warm `God Bless You', addresses you with a courteous `ma'am or ` sir', and says `thanks' at the drop of a hat. He pleases you with his gentlemanly conduct but often displeases you with open-ended answers. Surely, he still has to learn the trick of answering queries like his father - specific, sharp, witty and even tinged with humour. Though that no way keeps you from him for long.
And now that his much-talked about forthcoming film Bunty Aur Babli is hitting the screens, he has surely something to talk about. The film might gain him more popularity. A film, which he labels as "fun film" rather than categorising it in a specific genre.
"I can't call it a romantic film, I can't call it a comedy either, can't say it is an emotional movie, but just a fun-filled film that will fall very light on you," says the junior Bachchan about Shaad Ali's Bunty Aur Babli.
Bunty, (his name in the film) is a "boy from a small town who goes to Mumbai to realise his dreams. He meets Babli on the way. The film is actually about the adventures they have on their way to Mumbai," explains Abhishek.
Had to shed weight
And Abhishek had to "shed 12 kilos" to look like a small town boy. "I followed my director Shaad on looks, mannerism, clothes and all that. There is no special dialect that Bunty uses in the film," adds Abhishek.
Working with father
Talking of working with senior Bachchan in the film, Abhishek says, "Each time I had to remind myself that the man (Amitabh) opposite me in the same frame is a several decades senior to me in the profession.
Each step I was closely observing him. He is too deft at doing all kinds of scenes with ease. Despite he being my father, it used to be very awe-inspiring for me on the sets." Also, the film will see yet again the on-screen chemistry of Abhishek and Rani Mukerjee, richly commended in films like Yuva, Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai, etc.
"Oh so nice of them if they think that way. I think this film will further strengthen belief in us. But still, let them decide... ," Abhishek tapers off. It seems he accepted this film for an image change from an aggressive, impulsive man in Mani Ratnam's Yuva to a soft, nice guy who can look vulnerable too in Bunty Aur Babli. "No, it is not that. When Shaad narrated me the role, I liked it so much that I readily agreed. And that is more for its fun part than anything else in the mind. Actually on the film sets too, so many funny things happened that we ended up including those in the film too." "You see the film and then tell me how did you like the fun element in the film?" says the actor.
Sure, we will do that Mr. Bachchan Jr!
