Still at the helm

D. Ramanaidu introduces yet another director with his `Nireekshana'.

AWAITING A HIT Aryan Rajesh and Sridevi pin their hopes on `Nireekshana'.

It is always a pleasure to watch veteran producer D. Ramanaidu when he is completely involved in a project. It is like the enthusiasm of a beginner. He gets involved but doesn't interfere with the director's work on the sets. Spotting and guiding talented debutantes is his forte. And for the 19th time Dr. D. Ramanaidu is introducing a new director N. Sitaram with Nireekshana, made under Suresh Productions banner. Perhaps, for the first time the showman has launched a movie without any hype and hoopla.

"There is no particular reason for it. At a time when I was leaving for U.S. Sitaram Prasad gave me the complete script with shot division and dialogue. I took the script along and read it in my leisure. I found a fresh feel in the subject but felt that it needed a little bit of padding to make it more appealing. On my return, I asked Sitaram to do a rework on the script. He did that so perfectly and we went for the shoot immediately after," smiles Ramanaidu as he chats about his pet project at a sprawling 300 acre private garden in Shamshabad where the shoot is in progress.

The director is filming a duet on lead pair Aryan Rajesh and Sridevi. Sarath's camera vividly captures those pleasant romantic moments while the music composed by M.M. Srilekha is played on the nagara. By now familiar with such duets, both Aryan and Sridevi are at ease in dancing to the tune. Forget the camera and its accessories etc. It is like one big picnic party. No tensions. No pretensions. Amidst nature's splendour, everything seems natural and cool. The veteran producer makes you feel comfortable.

And then talks about his current venture that he says he is so involved after that epic love story, Prem Nagar. "We have completed the talkie part and two songs one of which was filmed in Araku Valley. The present duet can be seen as the last song in the movie. A situational song, it brings the heroine closer to the hero after he realises his folly. The spoilt brat (brought up by his grandmother played by Ramaprabha) at a stage tries to untangle complications from his own life's reckless rhythm. The story idea is truly different. It is not just a love story but has more to it with sheer newness in its approach."

Sridevi takes instructions about the steps she has to perform for the next stanza as Aryan listens attentively. "She plays the daughter of Nagababu, a doting father. But a trivial difference of opinion between the two causes a misunderstanding that leads to tricky situation. It is tricky but tickles," smiles Ramanaidu.

The veteran producer has been saying that he'll soon wield the megaphone. Will he be the 20th director to make his debut under his prestigious banner? "It has been pending for some time now. Whenever I wanted to take up the mantle, I find some youngster coming up with good script. So putting my own ambition in the back burner I let the young man make his debut. But now I think I will be the 20th debutant director," smiles the man who made his entry into the Guinness Book of World Records for having produced the maximum number of films.
