Renovation

Sri Appayya Dikshitar was a grihastha who practised detachment. He taught and spread not only Adi Sankara's Advaita philosophy but also Sivadvaita, Visishtadvaita and Dwaita. He advocated harmony, tolerance and understanding at a time when people were quarrelling about who was superior — Siva or Vishnu. Appayya Dikshitar declared that he saw no distinction between the two deities.

Siva-Sudha is an association formed to spread the message of Appayya Dikshitar, who had established a Math at Virinjipuram near Vellore to enable sadhus and sanyasis to stay and perform daily pujas and japam. But what remains of the complex today is Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple in a dilapidated state. The association has taken up the renovation of the Math- temple complex. For details, contact Siva-Sudha, 1/497, NATCO Colony, middle Street, Kotivakkam, Chennai - 41 (Ph: 2492 7837/2617 1865).
