Now, here's a bagful of gags

`Kanchanamala Cable TV' promises to be a fun-filled fare.

Let's pose A scene from `Kanchanamala Cable TV'

The by now famous village house settings at the Ramanaidu Cine Village at Nanakramguda has come in handy to shoot a rural scene for Ramya Movies, Kanchanamala Cable TV produced by Potluri Sathyanaryana alias Thammudu Satyam and K.V. Krishna Rao. Yet another promising new director Parthasarathi makes his debut with this Srikanth - Lakshmi Rai starrer. He had earlier worked with Srinu Vytla and Mohan Gandhi. Incidentally, the Kannada heroine, Lakshmi Rai, starts her Telugu career after acting in a couple of Tamil films. The vivacious and talented Lakshmi Rai is not in the shoot that day. Seen at the spot is hero Srikanth, comedians - Sunil, Krishna Bhagwan and, Sivaji Raja; yesteryear heroine, Subhashini, who has graduated to character roles and Rajitha. The artistes are rather in a relaxed mood since they are participating in only a "patchwork." In cine language, it means to fill the bits and pieces that are left out while shooting the main sequence.

Village backdrop

As the director and cinematographer, Poorna are working the scene with the artistes, after the customary greetings, producer Sathyam briefed us about his ambitious project over a hot cup of filter coffee. "What we are shooting now is actually patchwork related to the climax. Except for a song, the shooting part is over. It is basically a comedy with a village backdrop. The subject written by our director is refreshingly fresh. Srikanth runs a cable TV network in a village called Juvvalapalem.

Sunil, Sivaji Raja and newcomer Preethi are his assistants. Lakshmi Rai plays Kanchanamala under whose name the hero runs the cable TV network. To attract subscribers , the hero and his team coin a new TV programme that no other (real) channel has till today thought of," says the producer.

He then continues, "But they encounter problems from Krishna Bhagwan, M.S.Narayana and Raghubabu who unsuccessfully run a rival cable network in the village.

All these incidents are fun filled and serve as a comic punch," says Sathyam.

He narrates that there is a subtle message too wherein the hero and his friends also reform the village from its maladies, through comical interludes and twists. The comic fare that is in the offing is evident as all the artistes burst into peels of laughter as the director narrates a few dialogue from a scene. Srikanth is happy to be associated with one more meaningful role immediately after Bapu's comeback success, Radhagopalam.

"The script is equally novel, sensitive and sensible. Generally the characters we see in rural areas are found here too. The dialogues and the happenings are nearer to reality. I am enjoying working in a film that is produced by my friends," says Srikanth.

It is time to fold up. The camera crew and the unit members are dismantling the equipment and other paraphernalia from the house that is made into a replica of a house they have shot earlier in Poduru village near Palakol.

Most of the shooting took place in Poduru and Palakol. The hero, heroine and some other artistes would be going to the areas again on June 1 for a song sequence.

Composed by Anand fame K.M. Radhakrishnan, the lyrics written by Chandra Bose runs like a parody on the cable network. Veturi Sundararama Murthy and Sahithi wrote the other songs, three of which have been filmed in Palakol and surrounding areas and two in Kerala. Music is an added asset to to the movie.

Presented by P.V.V.S.N. Murthy, the film is slated for release in the third week of June.
