Lively Ashtavadhaanam in Sanskrit

The `Ashtavadhanam' continues to be one of the best literary feats.

Literary feat Amazing memory power is what makes the avadhaanis a class apart.

The Ashtaavadhaanam in Sanskrit accomplished with felicitous charm by the principal of the Kovvur Sanskrit College, Dorbala Prabhakara Sarma, marked the third anniversary of the literary sabha- Sahitya Surabhi recently at Kalabharathi.

Sarma going aesthetically erudite in the pure and simplest idiom of the Devabhasha, seemed to be a personification of the titles Geervaana Kavithaalankaara, Gnana Saraswathi, Samskrutha Sataavadhaana Prabhakara and the likes conferred on him earlier.

It turned out to be yet another programme of high quality comparable to the literary discourses organised every month by the sabha ever since it inception two years ago.

The Ashta, Sata and Sahasraavadhana prakriyas in Telugu, time and again proved to be enlighteningly entertaining literary feats.

They require show casing of acumen and sharp presence of mind with which the Avadhaani makes use of the repertory of vast and varied literary knowledge accrued.

The amazing memory power and felicity in quaint knitting of poems in strict adherence to established norms and render them extempore by way of immediate and apt response to the arabesque queries thrust on him by the pruchchakaas (questioners) on the spot.

No wonder, they stand hailed as a unique contribution of the Telugu scholars to the firmament of entire literature like the padyanaatakam (poetic drama) to the world theatre.

The Avadhaanam in Sanskrit had men of letters like `Acharya Sarvabhowma' Vedula Subrahmanya Sastry, Peri Bhasakara Sarma, Ayyala Somayajula Gopala Rao, P.T.G.V. Rangacharyulu, Rambhatla Satyavathi, Kalyana Rama Rao, Nemani Ramajogi Sanyasi Rao, P.S.V.S. Sarma, and Rambhatla Nrusimha Sarma participating.

In the meeting that followed with Kalyana Rama Rao in the chair, guests of honour, law professor , R. Venkata Rao, the former AU Telugu professor , K. Malayavasini and noted litterateur, Oruganti Venkata Narasimham felicitated all those involved in the avadhaanam and those who delivered discourses at the Surabhi's regular monthly meetings as well.

The vice-president of Surabhi, Peri Venkata Ramakrishna Murthy, presented the annual report and proposed a vote of thanks.
