Vibrant fare

Devotional fervour marked the Annamayya jayanthi celebrations.

The Jayanthi of pioneering composer Tallapaka Annamacharya was celebrated colourfully in the Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government College of Music and Dance, Vijayawada by Department of Culture, Government of Andhra Pradesh.

The interesting variety fare presented first, a nadaswaram recital by Jagarapu Shankar and his troupe. Shanker and Balakrishna and Durgarao presented Annamacharya keertanas, with Doondeswara Rao and Vasu giving them adequate support on the tavils. After the Nadaswaram recital, G.V.Prabhakar of Hyderabad rendered Annamayya kirtanas with admirable devotional appeal. Support on violin and mridangam for Prabhakar came from Palaparthi Nageswara Rao and N.S.Kalyanaraman respectively.

The final treat of the evening was a fine dance programme presented by Vempati Nageswari of Warangal and her party. They exhibited fine abhinayam to Annamacharya keertanas specially selected for dance. Nageswari rendered the nattuvangam efficiently and the instrumental support came from J.Srinivasa Murhty (violin) and Y.Bhemashankar (mridangam).
