Samprokshanam
In a beautiful village on the southern banks of the Cauvery opposite Tiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur district is situated the 400-year-old Kalyanapuram Srinivasa Perumal temple. It is believed to be the Abhimana Sthalam of Tirukandiyur Harasapa Vinochana Perumal. The utsava murthy is said to have been brought from Tirumala and installed here. So, devotees unable to go to Tirumala to offer their prayers often visit this temple.
The deity fulfils the wishes of those devotees who pray sincerely to the Lord and perform a Garuda Seva. Therefore, on almost all days, except the festival days, Lord Srinivasa and His Consort Alarmelmangai give darshan to devotees on Garuda Vahana. It is also believed that if Tirukalyana Utsavam is performed for five days with Oupasana Homam both in the morning and the evening, concluding with a Sesha Homam on the final day, young girls will get married before the next year's festival. The festival was started by Vedic scholar Raju Vadhyar in 1941 and is conducted with fervour even today with leading musicians and Harikatha exponents taking part. Sri Tyagaraja is believed to have visited the temple everyday during his unchavrithi. Recently, the temple was renovated with financial help to the tune of Rs. 30 lakhs from Srinivsa Perumal Seva Samiti and devotees and Samprokshanam is to be performed on June 10. Sri Harasapa Vimochana Perumak of Tirukandiyur and Srimath Andavan Sri Rangaramanuja Mahadesikan and Ahobilam Math jeer Sivan Satagopa Narayana Yateendra maha Desikan will be present.
Contributions may be sent to the trustees of Srinivasa Perumal Temple, Kalyanapuram - 613 201.
