Toppers given prizes
The eight-week-long free sloka classes concluded recently at the Sri Sankara Math at Srirangam with the chief priest of the Math, B. Chandrasekar, giving away prizes to the toppers in the sloka competitions in the senior and junior categories, and for those who recorded cent per cent attendance.
The fourth anniversary celebrations of the Maha Kumbabhishekam of the Math's shrines commenced early morning with the recital of Mahanyasam followed by Ksheera (milk) abhishekams to all deities.
Speaking at the valedictory function, V. S. Nagarajan, former official of the Kalpakkam Atomic Research Centre, who also conducted the classes, said the regular sloka classes would continue, 7-8 a.m. every Sunday.
T. S. Rengarajan, manager of the Math, announced the construction of new buildings at the Srirangam complex at a cost of Rs. 25 lakhs, to house the Vidyarthis and staff of the Sri Bharathi Theertha Yajur Veda Patasala. He also appealed to the votaries of Sri Sankara's Advaitha philosophy to donate generously to the Patasala's fund.
