The conference hall of the Public Library, Dwarakanagar, witnessed two enlightening and entertaining literary programmes last week. The first was a mega event with poets from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts reciting their own compositions. The Mosaic Literary Association and Esskay Foundation which jointly launched the website www.telugusahityam.org recently at a public function held to coincide with the birth anniversary celebrations of Rabindranath Tagore, organised the Kavi sammelanam.
Reputed short-story writer, L.R. Swamy presiding over the function gave details of the future programmes of the project. Pusarla Jagannath from the USA, renowned poet, Ramateertha and noted critic, Addepalli Ramamohana Rao spoke on the occasion.
Poets of wide repute, Rama Suri, Aaduri Satyavathi Devi, S.R. Bhallam, Bhagavan, Ramateertha, L.R. Swamy, Prasanna Sri, Jagaddhatri, Rambhatla Nrisimha Sarma, N.S. Murthy, Santosh Alex, T. Prudhviraj, P. Anantha Rao, A.V.R. Murthy, K. Rama Murthy, Syama Sundar, Ramisetty, P. Lakshmana Rao and the likes participating in the Kavi sammelanam added grandeur to the occasion. Hymns book
The second was the release of an attractively fashioned book Satpasathi Sundarakaanda, a compilation of 700 slokas selectively chosen out of the 3,000 in the original by Valmiki. Jonnalagadda Sita Rama Anjaneyulu and his wife Syamalamba edited the anthology. It was released by Appala Someswara Sarma. The function was organised by the 75-year-old Visakha Saraswatha Vedika founded by literatteur-statesman, Tenneti Viswanatham. Vedula Subrahmanya Sastry reviewed the book.
Prefixed with abridged versions of the Valmiki Ramayana like Sri Ramaavatharanam and Sri Sita Rama Kalyanam on one hand and suffixed with similar versions of Sri Rama Pattabhishekam followed by Sri Sita Rama Anyonya Jeevanam, the book could give its readers as much pleasure as the entire Valmiki Ramayana, observed Vedula.
