Shrines for many deities

The Kumbabhishekam of the Skandashramam temple is scheduled for June 24.

ALL UNDER ONE ROOF: Some of the gopurams are built Orissa style.

Nestled serenely at Selaiyur is the temple of Chennai Om Sri Skandasramam, built by Srimad Shanthananda Swamigal who hails from the Avadhoota tradition of saints. The Kumbabhishekam of the temple is scheduled for June 24.

Enshrined in this temple are the icons of various deities — Kamala Siddhi Vinayakar, Panchamukha Heramba Ganapathy, Dattatreya, Panchamukha Anjaneya, Saneeswarar, Ayyappan, Ashtadasabhuja Durga Parameswari, Sadguru Shantananda Swamigal, Lord Sarabeswara, Goddesses Prathyankira and Bhuvaneswari, Swaminathaswami (Skanda) and Sri Chakra Poorna Maha Meru.

Sri Kamala Siddhi Vinayagar appears in golden colour and is about 5 ft. tall, seated on a lotus. The deity is installed to the right of Goddess Bhuvaneswari.

Sri Panchamuga Heramba Ganapathi is one of the 32 Ganapathis. A 12-ft idol seated on a lion has five elephant heads and ten arms. Lord Dattatreya, the embodiment of the Trimurthis — Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva — stands as a classic representative of profound truth. With three heads and six hands, he is revered as the fountainhead of the Avadhuta tradition.

The gopurams of Lord Panchamukha Heramba Ganapathy, Dattatreya, Panchamukha Anjaneyar, Saneeswarar are akin to the Orissa type of temple architecture.

There are also separate shrines for Lord Ayyappan, Ashtadasabhuja Durga Parameswari, Sri Shanthananda Swamigal, Sri Veera Sarabeswarar, Ugra Prathyankira, Sri Swaminatha Swami and Sri Chakra Poorna Maha Meru.
