Absorbing drama

`Gayopaakhyanam', by Sri Sai Kalaaniketan, turned out to be a well-organised performance.

The popular play Gayopaakhyanam by Chilakamarthi was staged by Sri Sai Kalaaniketan at Prema Samajam Hall last week. Many a time best actor and best singer awardee Cheekati Rama Rao as Krishna, Niketan Secretary B.V.A. Naidu as Gaya, noted accompanist on harmonium Bagadi Vijaya Saradhi as Arjuna and B.A. Naidu as Dharmaraja lived their roles and rendered evocatively the versified dialogues in appropriately chosen ragas. Overall, the performance was engaging and absorbing.
The supporting cast had G.S. Reddy as Kousika, D. Jagga Rao as Balarama, B. Vijay Sai as Satyaki and Sahadeva, A.V. Raghavan as Bheema and T. Dali Naidu as Nakula.
<167,0p,1>Ela Appa Rao on harmonium was an asset. S. Tata Rao lent good support on tabla.
The credits for make-up, lighting effects, decor, stage management and coordination were shared by B. Mahesh Babu, P.V. Ramana Murthy, U.A. Naidu, N. Simhadri and R. Kesava Rao under the expert guidance of the President of the Niketan, Choudary Appa Rao.
Earlier, in a meeting with the Honorary President of the Niketan, Ganta Appala Naidu (MD, Naitri Krishna Finance Ltd.) in the chair, Choudary Madhava Swamy, eminent stage artiste, noted social worker and retired VPT employee, was felicitated by the chief guest of the evening, chief manager of Bank of India, M. Ramakrishna Rao.
Guests of honour A. Chandra Sekhara Rao (BM, State Bank of Hyderabad) and K.B. Annapoorneswara Rao (mechanical engineer, VPT), lauded the members of the Niketan for their sustained zeal in serving the cause of poetic drama.
