Nandi awardees feted
Nandi drama award winners were felicitated at a well-attended function.
The award winners of "Nandi Natakotsavan" living in Vijayawada were felicitated at a function held here at the V.H.Grandhalayam Hall. The largely attended function was followed by a well-staged mythological drama Mohini Bhasmasura. Andhra Arts Academy and Sarada Kala Samithi jointly sponsored the function. Winners of Nandi awards Pilla Nataraj, (best supporting actor); Pamidi Srinivasa Rao (best comedian) and Panchagnula Pardhasaradhi (for best makeup) received the honour from Achanta Venkataratnam Naidu, Polavarapu Koteswara Rao, Ketu Balireddy and others. Veteran stage actor Achanta Venkataratnam Naidu was also honoured on the occasion.
The slickly presented drama Mohini Bhasmasura written by K.R.K.Sastri and staged by Vijayakrishna Natya Mandali was well received by the drama lovers. U. Lakshminarayana, U.V. Rama Yoga, S.N. Sastri, K. Prabhakara Sastri, A.P. Adinarayana, B. Murali, Ramakrishna, Poornayya Sastri and Jyothi effectively played the main characters.
The master director of comedy based movies and noted writer Jandhyala's fourth death anniversary was celebrated by his friends and fans at V.H. Grandhalayam Hall under the aegis of Kala Manjari, Vijayawada. Chief guest and noted film and TV artiste U.V. Subbaraya Sarma said that Jandhyala was not only an artiste but also a man with a kind heart. Jandhyala encouraged many artistes in the film and drama fields. Rich tributes were paid to Jandhyala on the occasion and it was suggested that an award should be instituted in Jandhyala's memory for the best comedy play every year. Veteran stage actress A.Vijayalakshmi was honoured on the occasion. The speakers included A. Satyanarayana Rao, A.C.P, Vijayawada, A.V. Subbaraju, president of Sumadhura Kala Niketan, A.V. Ramana, advocate, Rajendra Prasad, publisher. The meeting was inaugurated by industrialist K. Krishnarjuna Rao and was organised by Madugula Ramakrishna of Akashvani, Vijayawada.
Later there was mimicry show by popular artiste Sylvester who regaled the audience with his expertise in mimicry and comedy. This was followed by a hilarious play Putukku jara jara Dubukku mey written by Diwaker Babu and presented by the Samskrithika Samakhya of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. Good performances came from Bhaskar, Sarita, Veeriah, Govindu, Devayya and Subba Rao. The play was well directed by B. Subba Rao.
