Celebrating poet Kannadasan
Kaviarasu Kannadasan Thamizh Sangam, No.115, 24th Street, Shankar Nagar, Pammal, (Ph: 2248 5633; 2263 1496), will celebrate the 79th birthday of the late lyricist Kannadasan and the 14th year of the Sangam, and also present the annual Kannadasan awards, on June 25, 6 p.m., at Vani Mahal, T. Nagar.
The three functions held together will have Mellisai Mannar, composer T. K. Ramamurthy, giving away the Kannadasan awards for the year, to filmmaker Balu Mahendra and actor Lakshmi Sivachandran. The chief guest of the evening S. Jagathrakshagan (ex-MP) and poet Kanmani Subbu will address the gathering.
Dr. Ramasamy Kannadasan will unveil a portrait of the eminent poet. A classical dance programme for 30 minutes, based on songs penned by Kannadasan, will be presented by Ranjani.
This will be followed by a light music show (1 hour) of the Kaviarasar's numbers.
The show rendered by Seenuvin Ilaiyaragam will be emceed by Saraswathi Ramanathan.
