GETTING A FACELIFT: The three-tier Rajagopuram of Sri Kasi Viswanathar Kasi Visalakshi Temple, W. Mambalam, Chennai.
The dream of humble devotees are crystallising into a great edifice at Sri Kasi Viswanathar Kasi Visalakshi Temple, West Mambalam, Chennai, in the shape of the seven-tier Rajagopuram (East) and a three-tier Rajagopouram (south) under construction.
What began as a small project of renovating this 400-year-old temple, with an outlay of Rs. 65 Lakhs, has ended up with construction of two Rajagopurams. The renovation work began on November 23, 2003.
The cost is expected to be around Rs. 131 lakhs covering 28,500 sqft. The cost per sq ft is Rs. 460.
