Romance cool

S. R. ASHOK KUMAR.

Yet another love story is ready to roll out. The director is Hosimin.

CELEBRATING VALENTINE'S DAY: The lead characters in discussion with the director of February 14.

It is a typical auditorium, with a stage where people can dance and 15 round tables and chairs placed beneath for audience.

Two dozen girls dressed in white bridal finery are dancing with the hero and the leading lady in their midst. And who indeed is the hero? None other than Bharath and with him is Renuka Menon. Both are dancing to the tune of Bharadwaj.

The shot seems to be important as one finds director S. P. Hosimin instructing cameraman Rathnavelu and the dance master to not lose focus of the audience. Coming before the climax, the song is vitally placed.

Director Hosimin was an understudy of Shanker having worked with him for "Indian," "Jeans," "Mudhalvan" and "Nayak." "I owe it to Shanker from whom I have learnt whatever little I know of cinema. I was working in a Tamil weekly and interviewed Aishwarya Rai. It was a pleasant coincidence to meet her when we were doing ``Jeans." As associate director I helped her with the dialogue. She remembered the interview and even now calls me when she passes Chennai."

Hosimin has directed some commercials also. "`February 14' is cool with romance blossoming beautifully. The hero loves this girl (from the U.S.), who doesn't respond till the end. The shot you just saw is a farewell song sung in college where the two meet.

Youth-oriented theme

The story is sure to strike a chord in young as well as the old." Four songs are written by the director himself and one by Pa. Vijai. The shooting was held in Chennai, Bangalore, Chickmagalur and Pollachi.

Cameraman Rathnavelu does not accept work unless he is convinced that it will be challenging.

After hearing the story he accepted the film rejecting three in the process. "I want to do something which will make the viewer happy. For the main scene (just described) I asked art director Rajeevan to do an auditorium set were I could shoot 360{+0} so I could keep the camera at any angle and I am happy with the results. I have used soft and cool lighting throughout."

Vadivelu, Santhanam, Suman Shetty, Satya, and Pyramid Natrajan are among the others in the cast.

Produced by Salem A. Chandrasekar for Sri Saravana Creations, the film has story, screenplay, dialogue and direction by S. P. Hosimin.
