The 34th art exhibition by Lalit Kala Parishad showcased the efforts of painters from AP and other States

The Community Hall of the Lions Club in Ramnagar played host to a two-day show of works in pencil, pen, acrylics, water and oil colours, lino and wood cuts along with a few graphics as well.
The 34th in the series of art exhibitions organised annually by Lalit Kala Parishad, it was held this time in association with the Ramnagar wing of the Lions Club.
The Parishad was established under the guidance of Kalaprapoorna late Ganapathiraju Atchutarama Raju in the year 1968. Credited with conducting competitions in painting and drawing for children and in other categories as well on an all-India basis, the Parishad received 135 entries from 78 artistes this year from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka besides Rajkot and Pondicherry.
The panel of judges headed by the doyens of art from Hyderabad, R. Subba Raju and B. Narahari Rao, selected 124 works of 77 artistes for display. They also listed out about one-third of the total exhibits for bestowing awards.
V. Kiran Kumar for `Illusion', a work in acrylic, J.B. Thammana Gouda for his `Portrait' in water colours and Francis Dias for his work in ink titled `Street', won the first prize comprising a cash award of Rs.1,000 each along with a memento.
K. Seshagiri Rao, for his oil work titled `Disposable', V. Jangayya for his wood-cut titled `Two friends', M. Subrahmanyeswara Rao for his work in water colours titled `Vaagdevi', G. Kanna Rao for his `Portrait' in water colours, A. Appa Rao for his untitled work in oils and R. Saikumar, also for an untitled work in water colours, received the second prize of Rs.500 each and a certificate.
Ten exhibits were listed for the third prize of Rs.100 each along with a certificate. Mementos and certificates were given away to 20 other artistes for their works.
The exhibits that received the first and second prizes stood out for their quaint finish and artistic finesse, continuity of line, contours and play of colours.
Renowned painter-sculptor, scenic designer, playwright and art critic Abburi Gopala Krishna (former head of the AU department of Theatre Arts) was felicitated on the occasion by the president of the Parishad, C. Sanjeeva Rao, its founder secretary G. Kanna Rao and Lion Krishna Rao.
