Queen of hearts

Katrina Kaif talks about her foray into Telugu films and more.

Holding yourown against stalwarts in your very first film is something very few artistes can claim. And when someone does it, it is cause for much hype. The artiste in question, Katrina Kaif, played a model in Kaizad Gustad's "Boom" and though the movie was panned by critics and shunned by audiences, she is here to stay.

When you compliment Katrina on her terrific body language in "Boom", she gets upset and says, "I don't want to talk about that project. You can move on to the next question."

Some actors are temperamental. They are sweet to begin with but a wrong first question like this one can very well upset their rhythm. "Boom" might be a wrong film to be associated with but certainly not the Telugu blockbuster "Malleswari".

The mention of the film doesn't bring a smile on her face. She is stiff and answers disinterestedly, "A lot of people were curious to see me in the film. I don't know why. But it was a good experience."

No big deal

Doing yet another Telugu film after "Malleswari", Katrina adds, "I love the working atmosphere in the South and the people are warm. As for the language, I think one should put in a lot of effort. Often, actors all over the world work in films where the language is alien to them. So what I am doing is no big deal. I am constantly trying to improve my work."

"Acting was something I never thought of as a career. When it eventually happened, offers kept pouring in. So I took the plunge. This year, I have three films - I'm doing `Sarkar', `Maine Pyaar Kyon Kiya' and another film with Akshay Kumar, besides a film with Priyadarshan," she says. While most of the new talent is of a here-today-gone-tomorrow kind, Katrina has aces tucked up her sleeve.

And if her forthcoming ventures, or at least a couple of them do well, then she is likely to rule the box-office in 2006.
