Mediocre presentation

Performance was not up to the mark, says P. SURYA RAO

The weekly cultural programme series instituted by the Department of Culture, State Government, presented at the Kshetrayya Kala Kshetram this time, was a Yakshaganam titled Ardhanareeswara.

The Yakshaganam, staged by Yadavalli Srinivasa Rao and party of Guntur was mediocre in quality.

The story depicted the aftermath of the Ksheera Sagaramadhanam in which the evil elements Tara Rakshasa, Rakthaksha and Vidyunmavi took birth.

When the devatas appeal to lord Siva, he appears as Addhanareeswara and destroys the rakshasas. The story was explained by the sutradhara.

The Yakshaganam received a lukewarm response from the audience, as there was almost no movement of the artistes on the stage.

They stood together before the microphone and narrated and sang the content of the story almost like a folk group song. A Yakshaganam is meant to be a mixture of dance, narration and some dialogue.

Miriyala Nageswara Rao was convincing in the garb of Ardhanareeswara. Sekhar Babu was the sutradhara. Other participants were Mallikharjuna Rao, Pulla Rao, Ramana Rao, Gangadhar, Srinivasa Rao and Mohan Rao.
