All for a fizzy drink

S. R. ASHOK KUMAR

Surya is the hero and Goutam Menon the director but it is not a regular film.

COOL AND RELAXED: In the midst of shooting.

The YMCA ground was abuzz with activity. Obviously a shooting was in progress. The generator van was yet to come to life. Lght equipment were all in place. The unit members were quietly having their breakfast.

So what was happening? Going a little closer one could spot cameraman Rajasekhar giving instructions to his assistant about camera positions. Rajasekhar, incidentally, has done work for quite a few hits — "Kakka Kakka", "Manmathan", "4 Students" and "Red." At present he is cranking the camera for ``Thotti Jaya." Now what was this all about? Before one could catch up with him he disappeared into a room.

Moving further in one could locate Goutham Menon, director of ``Minnale" and "Kakka Kakka" the latest project being ``Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu."

So was it the Kamal starrer that was being shot? With Rajasekhar back with his camera the director became busy as the unit awaited the hero's arrival.

Meanwhile a young girl with make-up came to the spot. One has seen her in a couple of commercials. So she is the heroine, but where is the hero? In came Surya. Ah, here is our man and he can clear the mystery. Surya obliged. "We are shooting a commercial for a soft drink," he says with a grin. ``I am acting as the director in the advertisement film. And there is a gift offer between July 24 and September 3.

The winner will get a chance to act with me in `Aaru' directed by Charan. YMCA-Nandanam, a house on the East Cost Road and Pizza Hut on R. K. Salai are the shooting spots," he concluded. Aravindan and Jaishanker, who composed a song for ``Yei Nee Romba Azhaga Irukae," have scored the music for the advertisement film.
