Dance Recitals

Some of the youngsters who have been learning Odissi with great dedication at Utsav, the dance academy of Padmashree awardee, Ranjana Gauhar, gave a dance performance this past week at the India Habitat Centre Basement theatre. Habitat was also the venue for Kathak dance recitals. While Aditi Bhattasali, disciple of Guru Krishna Mohan Mishra presented a Kathak recital, leading Kathak dancer of the Lucknow Gharana, Pt. Ram Mohan Maharaj presented a Kathak recital as part of the HCL Concert series.

Karmakar's Works

An exhibition of recent works by Prokash Karmakar, acrylic on canvas, was on view at Art and Deal 23, Hauz Khas Village.

Book Release

Indira Goswami, a prominent Assamese writer released the book "Love in the Time of The Insurgency", published by Katha. This is an English translation of Jnanpith awardee Birendra Kumar Bhattcharyya's classic `Yaruingam'. The function was held at Full Circle, N Block, Greater Kailash-I followed by a discussion.

Shades of Grey

An exhibition curated by Manna Studios, `July Shades of Grey', showcasing the works of Mandira Malik was on view at the Visual Arts Gallery. The show was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Delhi, Shiela Dikshit.

Sitar Recitals

Sarda Mukherjee, disciple of Biswajit Roy Chowdhury presented a sitar recital. And, to honour the tabla maestro Pt. Bulbul Maharaj, an evening of Hindustani Classical music was held the Habitat featuring a sitar recital by Ranjit Makkuni, disciple of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. He was accompanied on the tabla by Mithilesh Jha.

Ghazals and Songs

While Amrit Khanna presented an evening of ghazals and Punjabi folk songs, Impressario India presented `Bangla Ganner Sekal', popular songs of yesteryears (1910-1950) by Debashis Roychoudhury (Kolkata) and Uttara Dutta of Delhi.
