The Management Committee of Sri Kanchi Kaamakoti Samsthanam organised a weeklong discourse on "Ramayana" at its mutt by Acharya Saarwabhouma Vedula Subrahmanya Sastry.

A scion of a family of noted literary scholars and himself an erudite scholar in Sanskrit and Telugu, Sastry won the best scholar award for his theses as well for doctoral degrees in both the subjects and successfully guided scores of students registered for M. Phil and Ph.D degrees in both the subjects. He was drafted to teach Telugu and Sanskrit in the US Wisconsin University during 1976. More than a dozen of his books and critiques authored by him are already published.

Unlike the routine , the discourses at the Sankara mutt, Sastry's exposition turned out to be a scholarly analysis of almost all the attributes of human beings with a sharp focus on all the humane aspects as they get revealed from the highly poetic verses in the epic. Dealing in detail on the moral and ethical aspects that get highlighted in it, Sastry elaborated on the Saranagathi, Pitru vaakya paripaalana, the characteristic feature of modesty coupled with humility despite possessing indomitable strength and valour embodied by Hanuman and so on. People from all walks of life listened with rapt attention as he carried on the job in the listener's most friendly idiom.

The event was marked by the celebration of "Sri Rama Pattabhishekam" with all the traditional rituals , followed by a grand sabha with the president of the samasthanam , Lanka Jagannadham (noted advocate) in the chair. Sarvagna Sekhara Appala Someswara Sarma, Acharya G. Akkubhatla Sarma, Advaitha Siddhi Ratnakara, Acharya Maddulapalli Dattatreya Sastry, Maharaja Sanskrit College Reader, A. Gopala Rao, former Mayor, D.V. Subba Rao, Director, Centre for Policy Studies, A. Prasanna Kumar and noted advocate, Kandala Srinivasa Rao spoke on the occasion.

They later profoundly felicitated Sastry, who was presented with new clothes and a sturdy bracelet made of gold. The organisation's secretary , Susarla Suryanarayana Murthy who meticulously planned and organised the entire event, proposed a vote of thanks.
