Renovation on
Work in progress at Sri Karumari Tripurasundari temple.
Sri Karumari Thripurasundari Aalayam, founded by Sri Mahathripurasundari Nikethanam at Samiyar Thottam, Ashok Nagar, has planned to construct a three-tier Rajagopuram. The work demands Rs. 2 lakhs for sthapathi work alone on the Rajagopuram and Rs. 3 lakhs to complete the work ans conduct consecration.
The presiding deity being Thripurasundari, the important annual festival is Tirukkalyana Utsavam on Panguni Uthiram day every year. The utsavam is being celebrated ever since the temple was founded by the Nikethanam in 1974. During Navaratri special pujas, abishekams are performed and the deity appears in various alankarams in the evenings. An important feature of the temple is the emarald-studded 45cm crystal lingam (spatika lingam). Pradosham is celebrated on a grand scale. The Lord is taken out on a procession on the Rishaba vahanam.
Devotees wait to collect the abisheka tirtam (from the lingam) which is believed to bestow benefits. There are separate shrines for Siva, Ganapathi, Muruga, Durga, Navagraha, Anjaneya, Perumal and Thayar. On Hanumath Jayanthi day, the idol is decorated with one lakh and eight vadais.
Contributions may be sent to the secretary, Sri Mahathripurasundari Nikethanam, 5, Samiyar Thottam Street, Ashok Nagar (Ph: 2471 1678).
