Souvenir in memory of musician

Recently, the Tirukkoilur Panpaattu Kazhagam brought out a souvenir in memory of Subramania Dikshitar, at the musician's birthplace — Tirukkoilur. Dr. Sirkazhi Sivachidambaram and industrialist, Gandhi, released the souvenir. Born in 1888, Subramaia Dikshitar was a student of Naina Pillai.

After a decade of Gurukulavaasam at Kanchipuram under Naina Pillai, Dikshitar opened a music school, Saraswati Sangeeta Patasala, in 1935, and made his students take the lower and higher Grade music courses undertaken by the State Government. He was also known for the annual Tyagaraja Utsavam he organised in Tirukkoilur, in which eminent musicians such as D. K. Pattammal. N. C. Vasanthkokilam and S. Ramanathan participated.

He was also the tutor for his daughters, veteran musicians and Kalaimamani awardees S. Alamelu Arjunan and S. Pushpa.

Subramania Dikshitar passed away in 1978, after a fruitful life dedicated to music.
