T. Nagar visits Kodambakkam

S. R. ASHOK KUMAR

The creation of T. Nagar in Kodambakkam is a highlight of this Vijay-starrer.

VICTORY DANCE: Sivakasi

Can the famous Panagal Park with all its array of shops and shoppers move to Kodambakkam? Well, it apparently had on that day. The area was buzzing with activity with hundreds of people streaming in out of shops. What exactly was happening?

A closer look and of course enquiries revealed that it was a set created for the film, ``Sivakasi." Art director G.K. had brought Pothys and Prince Jewellery, Naidu Hall and other prominent landmarks of the commercial hub. It was an uncanny reproduction, complete with minute details.

Now on to the scene. A funeral procession is wending its way. Cameraman Sekhar Joseph is asked by director Paerarasu to take close-up shots of the hero Vijay and comes over for a brief chat.

``We are shooting the song in the afternoon," he informs. ``This is the place where our hero (Vijay) has his welding shop. The young man is not afraid of unruly elements and stands up to a dada and his henchmen. The shopkeepers around sing his praise and Vijay leads the dance," the director explains.

Typical Vijay

Sri Surya Movies "Sivakasi," produced by A. M. Ratnam, seems to be a typical Vijay film. "The film is a Deepavali offering for Vijay fans. It has all the ingredients for a box office success," says the producer.

Asin is absolutely thrilled to be doing a film with Vijay.

Director Paerarasu is all admiration for the producer. Especially the way he has obliged with his requirements, including the creation of the T. Nagar scene that has cost Rs. 1 crore. As many as 1,000 junior artistes have been used. Rathnam was so generous. Now it is my turn to give him a winner and I'm not sparing any effort. Vijay also is working very hard to make it a success. He has blended comedy and action with sentiment in a different way".

Prakash Raj is acting with Vijay after "Ghilli." Vijay's mother is Geetha while father is Rajesh. His sister's role is done by a new find Lakshana. Comedy is taken care of by Vaiyapuri, Chitti Babu and Bashker. Who can forget Swarnakka of "Dhool? She is doing a role in the film. ``Nayanthara is bound to captivate the viewers with her dance. We have also planned a song in an European country," says Paerarasu.

Jaishanker does the editing, dances are choreographed by Ashokraj and Dinesh, music is scored by Srikanth Deva and fights are composed by Rakki Rajesh. Story, screenplay, dialogue, lyrics and direction are by Paerarasu.
