ENJOYABLE PERFORMANCE: R. Kashyap Mahesh.

He rendered 20 Tamil songs composed by Arunagirinathar, Sundarar and Arunachala Kavi.

Kashyap Mahesh commenced his programme with Arunagirinathar's Tiruppugazh set in raga Nattai followed by a varnam in Mohanam.

The brief raga alapana of Vachaspathi along with niraval and kalpanaswaras was the highlight of the programme.

He also rendered M. K. Thiagaraja Bagavathar's `Rajan Maharajan' in the raga Husseini which was enjoyed by the audience.

As a mark of tribute to M. S. Subbulakshmi, Kashyap Mahesh rendered the late singer's favourite number `Kaatrinile Varum Geetham.'

Arunagirinathar's `Muthai Thiru' received a standing ovation. He concluded the concert with Hamsanandi tillana, the masterpiece of GNB.

The accompanists Sathiamoorthy (violin), Tiruchi Thaayumanavar (mridangam), Srirangam Sridhar (ghatam) and Malaikottai Deenadayalan (morsing) gave able support.

The director of Bishop Heber College, D. Swamirai, conferred the title `Tamizhisai Thendral' on young Mahesh in the presence of K. N. Lakshmanan, former District Governor, Lions Club and chairman of the music festival committee.
