Consecration
Mozhaiyur is a small village in Nagapattinam district, on the bus route between Mayiladuthurai and Vaitheeswaran Koil (bus stop Chozhachakranallur/Mozhaiyur Road) with two ancient temples built more than 400 years ago. The presiding deities of the temples are Sri Devi and Bhudevi samedha Sri Varadaraja Perumal and Sri Kalyaneeswari samedha Kalyanaparameswar.
The villagers fondly refer to the goddess as a benevolent deity that bestows grace even if they just think of Her. Fervent prayer at the temple clinches delayed marriage alliances, it is believed. The Ganapathi is known as Manthangithidal Pillaiyar. Sri Kalyaneeswari Vidyalayam, named after the goddess, has been imparting education to children for the past 53 years.
The residents of the village, now settled in far-off places, are planning to renovate the temple and perform kumbabhishekam. The cost of repair and consecration is estimated at Rs. 12 lakhs. Devotees may send in their contributions in the form of cheque/DD drawn in favour of `Mozhaiyur Narpani Mandrum' to M. Subramaniam, Treasurer, C-27, Renuka Nivas, Bhaktapuri Agraharam, Kumbakonam - 612 001 (Ph: 0435 - 2427974).
